The AAP Trade Libraries Committee, one of AAP’s longest-standing committees, is made up of book publishers who service the library market. The mission of the committee is to consider ideas and issues that pertain to the sale of books into all types of libraries, with a focus on public libraries; to provide information to the book publishing industry, librarians, and to the public on topics of common interest; and to encourage the exchange of ideas among publishers, wholesalers, and librarians, limited as always to appropriate and proper cooperation. To achieve its goals, the Committee works with and supports the initiatives of a variety of groups including the American Library Association (ALA), Friends of Libraries USA (FOLUSA), the Association for Library Collection and Technical Services (ALCTS) division of ALA, and various librarians and regional library associations.
The Association of American Publishers is the national trade organization of the U.S. book publishing industry. AAP’s members include most of the major commercial book publishers in the United States, as well as smaller and non-profit publishers, university presses, and scholarly societies. AAP members publish hardcover and paperback books in every field, educational materials for the elementary, secondary, postsecondary, and professional markets, computer software, and electronic products and services. The protection of intellectual property rights in all media, the defense of the freedom to read and the freedom to publish at home and abroad, and the promotion of reading and literacy are among the Association’s highest priorities.
